| Teak has been known for century for its unmatched durability and strength due to its natural high oil content. With minimum maintenance and care using the following products seasonally, your teak furniture will last many years for your enjoyment. Teak Sealer Most teak furniture owners like to preserve teak in its natural honey color. We recommend using the sealer which is the most preferred product in the market today. The sealer is formulated with natural teak color pigments, mildew and UV inhibitors, stain and moisture resistance. Never use the so claimed "Teak Oils " or any other oils as the organics in these oils act as food source for mold and mildew thereby defeating the beneficial natural oil in the teak to protect its durability and strength. In other words, to care for your teak furniture, never oil the teak! Sealing Instructions: 1) Clean your new teak furniture with strong detergent using soft Scotch Pad making sure the waxy surface is no longer felt to the touch. 2) Dry the teak wood completely with a clean rag. 3) Shake the can to thoroughly mix the content. 3) Apply the sealer to the teak using a foam brush allowing the wood to absorb to saturation. 4) After the first coat, apply a second immediately. 5) Use a rag to wipe off any excess from the wood after the second coat. Drying time normally takes about an hour if the weather is warm and dry. After cleaning and sealing for the first time, an occasional cleaning with soap and water and a single, seasonal application of the sealer will keep the teak looking great for years. To test if re-sealing is required after sometimes, splash the teak surface with water and if water beads up, then the sealer is still working and re-sealing is not necessary. Two-part Teak Cleaner Weathered teak with mold and mildew, oils, stains, varnish residue, and the sealer can be easily removed with the cleaner. Any coating varnish and color stain must be removed as recommended by the manufacturer before using the Two-part Cleaner. Using a harsh brass brush or a pressure washer to clean your teak is not recommended, these methods will raise and scour the soft grain of the wood causing a rough and splintery surface. A Scotch pad is the best tool to clean your teak. Cleaning Instructions: 1) Remove your teak furniture from any finished or painted surface on your deck or patio. The teak cleaner will not harm the lawn or fiberglass. 2) Wear rubber gloves and goggles when using the cleaner. Wet your furniture thoroughly by hosing down with water. 3) Squirt Part 1 cleaner onto a small area. It is best to work on a small area at a time, overlapping each area and working from top to bottom, avoiding the cleaner from drying out, scrub the Part 1 with a Scotch pad or a soft bristle brush, the wood will turn a deep brown color. 4) Without rinsing Part 1 Cleaner, apply the Part 2 to the same area and scrub in the same manner, the wood will then turn much lighter. 5) Rinse the teak thoroughly with water. It should appear lighter and cleaner. If any stains remain repeat the process. The wood will lighten further as it dries. 6) Apply the teak sealer as outlined above if the honey color is desired. Otherwise, let it weather to its unmatched distinguished patina. Clear Coat A high quality, well constructed piece of solid Teak furniture has been known to last outdoor for generations. If your teak furniture had been weathered to the distinguished patina, the surface can be further preserved by applying the Clear Coat. Clear Coat can also be used on just the table top providing a more impervious surface and improving stain and dirt resistance. The Clear Coat can be applied by itself or over the sealed teak to further protect the teak against heavy usage. |
